Why we take furniture apart
A king-size bed or a three-door wardrobe moved in one piece is heavy, hard to carry and easy to damage. Opened up, the same furniture travels flat, packs safely and fits through any door or lift.
Our carpenters bag and label every screw, bolt and bracket with the furniture it belongs to. At the new home, the crew assembles each piece and checks that doors, drawers and hinges work properly.
Dismantling is part of our household and office shifting. You can also book it on its own, for example when you are rearranging a home or selling furniture.

Furniture that needs extra attention
Most furniture comes apart easily. These pieces need a little more planning, and our carpenters know what to look for.

Hydraulic storage beds
The gas lift is under pressure, so the bed is opened carefully and the struts are secured before it moves.

Glass and marble tops
Tops are removed, wrapped with foam at the edges and corners, and crated for long-distance moves.

Modular wardrobes
Soft-close hinges and drawer channels are removed and bagged so they do not bend on the road.

Antique and solid wood furniture

Recliners and sofa beds
The mechanism is locked in place and padded so it cannot open during transit.

Wall-mounted units
TV units and shelves fixed to the wall are taken down with care. Fixing them again needs drilling, which we confirm at the survey.

Is dismantling included in household shifting?
Standard dismantling and refitting of beds, wardrobes and tables is usually part of our household shifting quote. Modular kitchens and custom fittings are quoted separately after a survey.
Can you refit a modular wardrobe or kitchen?
Many modular units can be opened and refitted. Some built-in units are cut to fit one room and may not fit another. Our carpenter checks this during the survey.
What if a screw or bracket goes missing?
Every fitting is bagged and labelled with its furniture, so this rarely happens. If a fitting is worn or damaged, we can replace it at a small extra cost.
Do you mount TVs and curtain rods?
We can fix basic items where drilling is simple. For concealed wiring or large wall units, we suggest your electrician or carpenter.
How long does it take to dismantle and refit a bedroom?
A bed and a wardrobe usually take about an hour to open and a little longer to refit, depending on the design.
Do you work on flat-pack furniture from online stores?
Yes. Flat-pack beds, wardrobes and desks can be opened and refitted. We keep the fittings in labelled bags, and it helps if you still have the assembly guide.
